Mechatronic Re-Design of a Manual Assembly Workstation into a Collaborative One for Wire Harness Assemblies

Nowadays, the wire harness assembly process is still manually performed due to complexity and product variability (e.g., wires of different kind, size length). The Wire cobots project, in which this work was conceived, aims at improving current state-of-art by introducing it collaborative robotics. A shared workstation exploiting human abilities machine strengths developed automotive means insulated tape for a real industrial case. In new workstation, deals with complex task handling, while robot performs repetitive strenuous taping operations. Such allocation together redesign allow an improvement operator’s well-being terms postural conditions increase production efficiency. paper, mechanical mechatronic design, as well realization validation are presented discussed.
